QuestionThank you doctor for your reply. I have tried clomid for many cycles, but nothing. As for my progesterone, i feel it is low because i was missing my periods for two months and my doc prescribed Duphaston and now i'm taking Duphaston 10mg for 10 days to get my periods.my periods started with progesterone. however, on day 17 of my cycle i get severe PMS pains. does this mean i'm low on progesterone? Here in Pakistan we do not have kits to detect progestrone peak levels. can taking clomid and progesterone help me concieve? thank you.-------------------------

Dear doctor, I'm 40yrs old with primary infertility. this month i had a hormone profile on day 2 of my cycle. the results were:
Fsh 5.3 U/L
LH 1.6 U/L
E2 123.0 PG/ML
what are my chances of conception with the above profile?
thank you.

You seem to have normal levels of FSH, LH, and Estrogen for an ovulating woman. HOwever, you should get a progesterone level at the beginning of your cycle and at mid cycle to see if you are, indeed, ovulating. If you are having a regular 28 day cycle, you probably ovulate around cycle day #14. YOU should be able to conceive if you have unprotected sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16. You can get an ovulation predictor kit from the pharmacy to help pinpoint the exact day of ovulation. If you do not show signs of ovulation, check your progesterone level. IF it is less than 5 at mid cycle, you probably are not ovulating and may benefit from a course of Clomid.
AnswerThere must be a laboratory where you can get a progesterone level performed. If it is within normal levels, you need not take any progesterone supplementation. However, if,at mid cycle, it is low, it can't hurt to take progesterone supplements. Clomid may, indeed, help you ovulate. Good luck.
