PIO Shots for Twin Pregnancies: Dosage & Effectiveness
QuestionI've been on Prometrium vaginally 200mg 3x day. I'm now 7.4 weeks into my pregnancy and have had some spotting from them. My RE has moved me onto PIO shots to alieviate the bleeding. I'm on the standard dose = 50mg. I did not do IVF so I do have a corpus luteum - I'm on the progesterone for luteal phase defect.
My question = Is 50mg (standard dose) enough for twins? Also - is it equvilant to the dose of Prometrium I was taking? I want to be sure I'm taking enough.
Thanks.
AnswerIf you have a luteal phase defect with a decreased amount of progesterone, we usually give you Progesterone suppositories or Prometrium 200mg/ day until you reach 12 weeks gestation. Then do not take any progesterone at all. We do not give more progesterone for twins. Progesterone tends to decrease the risk of miscarriage.Discuss it with your docto.
