Understanding & Managing High Blood Pressure: A Guide

Question
I recently went to a hospital emergency room to be treated for Shingles. The doctor was alarmed about my bllod pressure, it was 234/193. I told them I was unemployed with no money, so that sent me home. I am 45 and overweight, is there anything I can do at home to help lower my pressure. I'm sure losing weight may help, but what about immediatly to help.

Answer
Dear Philip,  Your blood pressure was when you went to the ER at and above the line that you could have had a stroke and/or heart attack and you really need to see a doctor...  If you don't have the funds to see a doctor, you MUST get to your local health department...  They only make you pay according to your income so for as little as $5.00 you can get your blood pressure checked, possibly get FREE blood pressure medication and be monitored regularly...

You probably have a current undiagnosed heart and/or clogged artery problems and you MUST get medical care immediately...  You probably also have HIGH CHOLESTEROL and you need to get a blood test for that and get on cholesterol lowering statin drugs immediately...

As for something to do at home, stop ALL fats, cut way back on carbohydrates, cut out all sweets and sugars, eat FISH, vegetables and fruit, but without medication to lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, diet and walking will NOT really help you much and will NOT prevent a heart attack or stroke...  You MUST get proper medical attention...  NOW!!!!!!!!!

thank you,   karen
