Understanding Sudden Blood Pressure Spikes: Causes & What to Do
QuestionHi.I'm an otherwise healthy 42 yo male. My blood pressure us typically normal to high normal.I eat fairly healthy walk 4 miles daily and do have anxiety. Due to a family history, I check my BP at home. For the last 18 hours its been running 170/74.The top number simply won't come down.I have never experienced this. Can bp simply spike this high for periods of time? Thanks.
AnswerDear Slayde,
High blood pressure is diagnosed after 2 consecutive visits to your healthcare provider, approximately 2 weeks apart, if your blood pressure is elevated at both these visits. . Anxiety can play a part in your readings. I suggest you make an appointment with your healthcare provider for a thorough physical examination.
