Pregnancy After Cone Biopsy: Risks & What to Expect
Questionhi i am now 6 weeks pregnant, had a sonogram and seen heartbeat , everything looks good. i had a cone biopsy in 1999, am i going to have any complications because of that? i also heard of a temporary stich being put in to hold the cervix closed, my doc hasnt said anything about it yet, but how long into the pregnancy do i get the stich and is it safe to have sex? thank you
AnswerJust because you had a cone biopsy five years ago does not mean that your cervix is incompetent or that it will open up during your pregnancy. If you have any evidence of cervical dilatation, your doctor may or may not decide to place a McDonal Cervical Cerclage around your cervix, This is done around 15-18 weeks gestation. If the cervix is closed and you have not had any reason to suspect a shortened or dilated cervix, nothing need be done and you would not need a stitch.
