Can You Get Pregnant After Your Period? Understanding Fertility

Question
can i get pregnant 2days after period going off .

Answer
Dear Nachelle,

Theoretically, you can get pregnant at any time during your cycle. You should always make sure you are protected if you do not want to become pregnant.

Unless you have cycles which are shorter than average (average is 28 days) and/or you have very long periods, your risk of conceiving right after your period ends is low. The fertile window for most women are cycle days 11-21 (Day 1 being the 1st day of your period). However, it must be noted that sperm cells can survive once past the cervix for up to five days. They just hang around for those 5 days and wait for the woman to ovulate so they can fertilize the egg. For a woman who cycles every 28 days with 5 day periods, she would typically ovulate on CD 14. So, potentially she could get pregnant from an unprotected encounter on CD 9 (4 days after her period ended). It's just something to keep in mind. And because it is so hard to keep track of for many women - most simply consider themselves fertile at any time to avoid any "oops" moments.  :-)

But if you have 28 day cycles or longer and average length periods, more than likely you were safe. Wait for the next cycle to begin. If you skip the next period, you will need to test for pregnancy.

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
