Understanding High HCG Levels in Early Pregnancy & Potential Concerns
QuestionHi I am 25 and I have one child who is 16 months old. I have polycistic ovary syndrome and had to take Clomid to get pg with current child. I became pg last fall and misscarried at approximitly 11 weeks after seeing a heart beat. Cause unknown. I am now pg again my LMP being Aug. 5th 2004. I have had my levels checked because I felt crampy on both sides. 9/20/04 my levels where 56,910 on 9/22/04 my levels where 77,350. They did not double completely so my obgyn wants to do an ultrasound next Wed. I feel as though these are on the high end of normal for seven weeks and am wondering if them not doubling is a problem even though they are so high. Also would twin pregnancy effect the way it doubles? Thank you so much in advance for any help you can offer.

AnswerIf your last period started on August 5, you are now September 27) 7 weeks 4 days. HCG values at 6-7 weeks gestation range from 4000 to 100,200. Certainly 77,350 falls within this range. Don't worry. A sonogram at 6-7 weeks should show a gestational sac, a fetus, and a fetal heartbeat. Wait to see what it shows. Don't worry. Good Luck.
