Understanding Low Progesterone & High HCG Levels: Pregnancy Options & Second Opinions

Question
I HAD A PROGESTERONE/HCG LEVEL DONE 48 HOURS AGO THAT SHOWED 9.8 PROGESTERONE, 15,149 HCG.  I HAD THAT TEST REPEATED TODAY WITH RESULTS OF 7.52 PROGESTERONE, 17,749HCG.  I HAD A ULTRASOUND FRIDAY THAT SHOWED A GESTATIONAL SAC OF 5.5 WEEKS.  MY DOCTOR SAYS THAT I MOST LIKELY DO NOT HAVE A VIABLE PREGNANCY AND SHOULD CONSIDER A D&C.  WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?  SHOULD I GET A SECOND OPINION?

Answer
Dropping progesterone levels, and lack of a doubling of your HCG values are not a good sign of a viable pregnancy. However, at 5.5i weeks, a sonogram will only show an empty gestational sac. I would not terminate the pregnancy yet. Wait two weeks a repeat the sonogram. Start taking progesterone supplementation. If, in tow, weeks there is the same picture on sonogram and the progesterone levels have dropped, and the HCG has dropped, I would agree to terminate the pregnancy.
