Questionmy LMP was on June 5th, 2007. I took a pregnancy test on July 25th. I consulted my doctor on the 25th of July, she did an HCG level on the 26th. I got the results back and the level is 2279. according to Labcore that makes me 4-5 weeks, but my doctor looked on the wheel says i should be 7 and 1/2 weeks ? i don't know if my HCG levels are low or if the wheel is wrong?
AnswerDear Ashlee,
According to my calculations, with a LMP of 6/5 and regular 28 day cycles, you would have been 7 weeks, 1 day on 7/26.
Now, hCG levels during pregnancy have a very wide range of normal. At 6 weeks after LMP the normal range would be 1,080-56,500 mIU/ml. At 7 weeks it would be 7,650-229,000 mIU/ml. So, yes, your levels would be considered low for 7 weeks, but it is possible that you may have ovulated a bit late during the cycle when you conceived and you aren't quite as far along as we think either.
Two things will be much more informative for you:
1. An ultrasound before 12 weeks will very accurately be able to date the pregnancy.
2. hCG levels are expected to double every 48-72 hours in early pregnancy. So I would expect that your doctor will want levels two days apart to make sure that the level is rising (doubling) appropriately. This is a much more important piece of information at this point.
I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
