Delayed Period & Negative Pregnancy Tests: What Could It Mean?
QuestionMy name is Heather and I am 24. My husband and I recently lost our insurance so I had to go off of the pill. I was on Orthi tricyclen until August 2004. I was on a 28 day cycle and was very regular. September I was off the pill and had a 28 day cycle still. October was 32 days. It is now November and I am on day 36 with still no period and no symptoms. I took 4 pregnancy tests. First Response early detection. I took it in the morning. All 4 were negative. Even the one I took this morning (day 36). We had intercourse 4 times last month, but my husband pulled out before ejaculation. I am aware of pre-ejaculate causing pregnancy at times. We aren't trying, but we aren't necessarily trying not to try either. My question is, could I be pregnant, even though the tests were negative? I read somewhere that even after you go off of the pill, it takes a couple of months for your cycle to regulate itself so I am thinking that this may be the reason. I am afraid that somehting is wrong with me! I hope that I am pregnant and that I am healthy. Thank you!
Answer You are right that is sometimes takes a couple months to get on track after getting off the pill.
I suspect that is what is going on with you. If you think you may get pregnant in the near future make sure you are taking folic acid to help prevent birth defects, good luck.
