Understanding Conflicting Pregnancy Test Results: A Comprehensive Guide

Question
I am 30 Years old and currently have no children. My last period was on the 22nd August, however I had some bleeding on 12-14Sept but have not had intercourse since before this date.

I did 2 clear blue pregnancy tests on Saturday 24th Sept which both said I was pregnant (The lines were very bold!). I saw my GP on the 26th Sept to do a urine sample - on Friday 30th Sept I was told that result was negative and to do another urine sample. I then bought another home pregnancy test (a different brand) which changed colour straight away saying I was pregnant.

I am very confused having done 3 home pregnancy tests all confirming that I am pregnant yet the Dr one was negative. Could I be pregnant or am I about to miscarry?

I would be grateful for your advice.

Many Thanks

Sharon

Answer
If you had three positive urine pragnancy tests and your doctor had one negative test, your ductor may have the incorrect test. I would suggest taking two blood tests for pregnancy (Beta HCG) 48 hours apart. If there is a doubling of the results in 48 hours, it indicates a viable pregnancy. If there is a halving of the results in 48 hours, it indicates a miscarriage. If both results are less than 5, you were never pregnant. If your last period started on August 22, then you would have ovulated on September 4 and could have beecome pregnant if you had sex on September 3,4,5, or 6. If you did become pregnant, a pregnancy test would have shown a positive result by September 18-25.
