QuestionI am 26 years old. I do not take any medications but I do take multi-vitamin supplements and, in the last month, I have taken siberian ginseng and rhodiola for energy (exams are burning me out). The only condition with which I have had problems lately is low iron levels, for which I am taking iron supplements in liquid gluconate form.
THis month, my period has been most odd. My symptoms (PMS) started early with more cramping than ever. Also, my breats were so sore that I couldn't sleep for one night. Normally they are tender but not painful. My period came about 3-4 days early. It was very light. The first day was reddish and brownish with thick clots. The second was more scant and lighter in colour. The third day (today) it was watery and pink and more scant. Normally my periods are extremely heavy for the first three to four days (with many clots)and then they taper off. I am on my third day and it is absolutely light with no clots; it looks like it might finish by tomorrow --something that has never happened. I normally change my pad three times a day; this month, one pad sufficed.
I took a home pregnancy test on my first day and it was negative. I took it today (the third) and it was negative as well. Should I worry about pregnancy? Could my stress and burnout and my consequent ginseng and rhodiola supplemetation be the causes? (Note: I stopped taking the supplemets 1 week before my period).
Should I wait a few more days and get another pregnancy test?
AnswerIf you did get your period (even if it was only for a day or two) you are not pregnant. There is no need to repeat the pregnancy test. If you do not get your period next month, wait an additional seven days and then take a pregnancy test. If it is negative, you are not pregnant.
