Dilation and Curettage (D&C): Understanding Timing and Procedure
QuestionHi expert,
my info: I am 27 years old, not married. menses irregular and heavy at times. Normally start at the 8th of the month and ends 9 to 10 days.
I am advised to do a D&C. But the doctor told me that the best time to do a D&C is on the 10th which is during my menstruation period. Why is 10th the best time to do the operation? Isn't it better to go for the operation when my menses ends?
Yours faithfully,
Eve
AnswerWhat is the reason that your doctor wants to perform a D&C? If you have periods that start on the 8th of each month, and last for less than 14 days at a time, there is no reason to have a D&C. A cycle is considered normal if it is 21-35 days (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) and a period is considered normal if it lasts anywhere from 1 hour up to 13 days.(A period that lasts for longer than 14 days is considered abnormal). If you have irregular periods they can be controlled with birth control pills and I do not know why you have been advised to have a D&C. A D&C can be done any time during the month, whether you are having your period or when you are not having your period.
