Ovarian Cyst and Delayed Period: What Could It Mean?

Hi Andi-

I am a little confused.  About a week 1/2 ago I went to the ER and they found a cyst on my right ovary by CT scan.  My last period was on June 21.  I am a 30 day cycle.  I am 7 days late and I have no period.  NEVER LATE. (Unless I was pregnant)  When I went to my follow up appointment this past Monday.  I informed my ob/gyn that I am 3 days late.  I asked her if that was due to the cyst and she said not likely.  What do you think?  I have taken 3 HPT and one looked like a faint positive but eyes can play tricks, 2nd was a digital and said "NOT PREGNANT", and the 3rd the result window was so light even if it wasnted to be negitive.  I am cramping and it feels like I am going to get it. I have like a creamy discharge. I am not sick or anything. This would be my 3rd pregnancy.  My doc said to call her on Friday which is today if I don't get. What do you think? Thank you soo much!

Those HPT's can trick your eyes! Very annoying isnt it.

I have heard that some cysts can cause your body to produce HCG (the pregnancy hormone) and this may have fooled the test.

It sure does seem that your cyst and the late period are related, though. Did your doctor do any blood tests to check and see if you are pregnant?  Did they do one in the ER? I would bet you are going to get your period any time now... but I dont know.

I wonder if on Friday if you havent gotten it yet she will re-test you and possibly give you Provera to bring on a period if the test is negative.
