Labor Induction Methods: What's Fact and Fiction?

A friend of mine says that she induced her labour by putting a hot water bottle on her back, she says 8 hours later she went into labour. She also says she was told this by a nurse. Is it true that this would work?

I have never heard this, but I don't know everything.  What  I suspect is she was suggested to use the hot water bottle for pain.  It probably was by chance she went into labor 8 hours later.  If hot water could put you into labor, baths would not be allowed.
