Delayed Period & Negative Pregnancy Tests: Understanding Potential Causes

Question
I'm 23 and have no children, but I am overweight and my last period ended August 8th 2004.  Sence then I have taken 5 different pregnancy test and they all have come back negative.  In Sept I went to the doctors to have a yearly exam, I had asked her about my weight if it would effect my ablity to have children she said no. I was just wondering if that would have anything to do with it.  Oh also in the past I have had problems with my period, I wouldn't have it for 6 months to a year at a time.  I went to the doctors and they gave me a pill to get me to start my period I have a regular period clear up until now.  I don't know if any of this will help just thought it be useful.
                      Thank You

Answer
If you had a negative pregnancy test, you are not pregnant. If you have not had a period since August, you probably have some hormonal imbalance and should go on birth control pills for 6 months in order to regulate your period. Then you can try to conceive if you wish. The Provera that was used to start your period will not regulate your cycles as well as the birth control pill will. You did not mention how much you weight, but there is an ideal weight for each person, above or below which you may not get your period. Your doctor should know. If your doctor claimed that you weight had no effect on your ability to conceive, it is probably true.
