Understanding Implantation Bleeding: Causes & What to Expect
Question25, 0, February 9th, 2004.
This period was the last I had on birth control pills, I was having trouble with the pills, bleeding in between. I have always been irregular. I had not had a period since February 9th. My husband and I are still having protected sex though(condom). About two weeks ago we failed to use a condom. About a week later my nipples started to hurt and I experienced some light cramping. This continued and I called my ob/gyn. She wanted to test me for pregnancy next week. My appt is on Monday. Yesterday I started spotting and it looks like I might have my period, but this is exactly two weeks after we had unprotected intercouse. I was curious to know if this could possible be implantation bleeding even though I haven't had a regular period in almost four months. It may have just been a coincidence! What do you think? I am a little confused by the timing of it all.
AnswerSince you have not had your period since February 9, there is no way to know exactly when you ovulated. It is certainly possible that you may have ovulated two weeks ago and did, indeed, become pregnant. Usually implantation bleeding occurs 8 days after ovulation (conception), however, it can bleed a bit later. YOu certainly should take a pregnancy test next week to see if you are pregnant. I would suggest that it be a blood test for pregnancy, which is a bit more accurate. Good luck to you.
