QuestionHi.
I have been having some strange things happen in the last couple of weeks. My period, which has NEVER been late, was a week and a half late and started yesterday. The day it was supposed to start, I began having symptoms of pregnancy, though most fit with menstruation, too. Symptoms were : low abdominal cramping, breast/nipple soreness/tenderness, more frequent urination, lower backache, gas, eating more than usual, headaches, fatigue, etc. These symptoms stayed pretty steady until a couple of days ago when my breasts began hurting much more and the abdominal cramping became more like actual abdominal pain. And now, bleeding.
I'm inclined to think that perhaps this is just a late period starting, only a few things worry me. First, as I said, my period is never late and the reasons for a late/missed period didn't apply to me. Second, the length of time that these symptoms have been present and the correlation between them and the fact that I very well could have concieved. Third, this bleeding that I am having isn't at all like my normal periods. It is MUCH lighter and half of it is a brownish color. The first two days of my periods are always heavy bleeding. And the fourth reason is that my symptoms of possible pregnancy have NOT let up in any way. Breast soreness and cramping always leave on the first day of my periods. What's happening now seems to be getting worse. The pain in my lower abdomen is no longer generalized cramping. It is focused toward the right and low.
From the start of my last period, the 8th of September, it has been 6 1/2 weeks. A pregnancy test should be able to pick up on a pregnancy by now. I took two tests, one on the 13th and one on the 14th of this month (it is now the 19th) and both were negative. I don't know if it could have been too early or if the hcg levels weren't high enough yet (another concern for possible ectopic pregnancy), but I am definitely confused.
Again, this could be just a late period starting and perhaps it is presenting differently because it was delayed. Or perhaps I am just a little paranoid. :) Regardless, there was a very real chance that I could have concieved and I would just like an opinion, no matter what it is. I have no insurance and I do not have alot of money, so to go to a doctor or the hospital right now is not really an option. Of course, if things got much worse, I would, but if there's nothing to worry about, I'd rather not have the extra worry of money issues.
Thank you for your time and suggestions in advance.

AnswerI do not think that you have an ectopic pregnancy. Here are the reasons:-
1. An ectopic pregnancy is a serious and rare disorder. It is usually associated with severe pain and shock and collapse, especially when there is associated vaginal bleeding. You have none of this.
2. Any pregnancy should show up in a urine test at six and half weeks. Since you have tested negative, you are unlikely to be pregnant.
I understand that you don't have insurance, so would not want to consult a doctor immediately. Therefore I would advice you to wait some time. I think you periods should stop in a couple of days. If they do, you are fine. If not you must seek medical attention. Here is a good article about ectopic pregnancy. I hope you find it useful.
