Understanding Cycle Irregularities: BBT, Cervical Mucus & Fertility Monitors

Question
Hello.  I asked a question about unusual short period last week. I'm on regular cycle 30-day period and never irregular. This month, I had unusual 2 day priod with very light spotting. I counted this as regular period and taking BBT to monitor. I am now on day 11 and the temperature went up to 98.4 this morning. My question is, my CM and BBT and Digital fertility monitor all tells me different things and I'm confused.

here is what's happening;

day5
BBT=97.6
CM=Dry
Digital Monitor(DM)=none

day6
exct same as day3

day7
exact same as day4

day8
BBT=97.3
CM=sticky, egg-white like
DM=none

day9
BBT=97.8
CM=egg-white, very sticky
DM=none

day10
BBT=97.9
CM=wet
DM=none

day11
BBT=98.4
CM=wet
DM=mid

My temp tells me that I have probably already ovulated, but DM tells me that I WILL be in 2-3 days.  What should I believe?  My OBGYN recently recommended me using clomid. And after I consulted her with this month short period, she told me to medically enduce AF so I can start taking clomid.  Should I wait and see if I'll ovulate or I should go ahead and take the enducement? what is really happning this month?

Thank you for the help in advance as always...

Answer
When you see a rise in temperature with a BBT chart, and you notice a "biphasic curve" (half of the graph is low and half is high), ovulation usually occurs 24 hours after the rise in temperature. (First there is usually a slight dip in temperature). After looking at a BBT graph for three cycles, you can take an average of the suspected day of ovulation and concentrate having sex at that time. An ovulation monitory is more accurate than BBT. It actually measures your LH (luteinizing hormone) surge. Ovulation usually occurs 12-24 hours AFTER the LH surge. I have found that trying to figure out the character of cervical mucus consistency is very difficult and is quite subjective. I would follow the ovulation monitor.  If you do not show evidence of ovulation, then I would try using Clomid. I have my patients take Clomid on cycle day #5,6,7,8, and 9 and then (hopefully) they will ovulate on cycle day #14. If the Clomid does not work within 6 months, I do not continue using it. Good Luck.
