QuestionHi Dr. Rappaport,
A couple of days ago I went to the restroom and when I went to "wipe off" I noticed something protruding from my vagina! I thought it was the baby (in 14 weeks) but it turns out that my cervix is so low that it can visibly be seen! I'm very afraid, can you tell me if this is normal, the risks, and what to expect later? I know this is 3 questions in one, but please help me...again!
Thanks a lot
Mrs Forbes

AnswerIf you noticed your cervix protruding from your vagina, you may have developed a uterine prolapse and should be examined right away. Are you sure that it is your cervix and not merely a cystocele (weakness of the bladder) protruding out? As long as the cervix is closed, you are not in any increased danger of miscarrying, however, if the cervix is protruding, it may be able to be pushed up back into place. Check it out with your obstetrician.
