Miscarriage After Tubal Ligation: Can You Conceive Again?

Question
hi,
i'm 34 and i have 3 daughters 15,13 and 10 i had a tubaligation when i was 23 and in nov 2004 i had a miscarriage, i thought i was getting my peiod and it came out onto the sanitury pad they classed it as 11 to 12 weeks. i missed my period sept, oct but didnt think much about it. what i would like to know is would i be able to conceive again as my hubby and i would like to try, i think they cut and clipped my tubes. i had the contraceptive injection in dec and it runs out march 2nd. my doctor and gyno said that i was highly fertile and recommended my tubes to be done again but i want another baby, what are my chances of having a natural pregnancy?
thankyou for your time.
wendy.

Answer
If your tubal ligation was ineffective, you certainly can become pregnant again. Obviously your tubes were not blocked or you would not have been able to have a miscarriage in November. However, if the tubes were partially closed or kinked in any way, there is a higher risk of a subsequent tubal pregnancy (ectopic) if you become pregnant again. If you do conceive, get an early sonogram to make sure that the pregnancy is in the uterus. Once you know that you have a viable intrauterine pregnancy, you shou.d have no problems.
