Lower Left Abdominal Pain in Early Pregnancy: Causes & Concerns

Question
I'm 8wks pregnant with my second child and for the past two days I've started to experience a very very mild, but rather consistent nagging pain in my lower left abdominal region.  It doesn't hurt and it isn't accompanied by any bleeding, but it is concerning me some. I am pretty certain it isn't ectopic because I have never felt ovulation on my left side in all my 32 years and do not have any risk factors for an ectopic pregnancy.

Also, I swear I feel like butterflies are flying all inside my uterus.  Is it possible I am feeling movement already?    I go for my first OB visit on Feb. 1st.  What do you think is going on with me?  Thanks a million, Elizabeth

Answer
Very often, in early pregnancy, you can have a "corpus luteum cyst" which maintains the pregnancy until the placenta is formed (at around 11 weeks). HOwever, if the pain becomes more severe, you should get a sonogram to assess what is going on. Even without bleeding, you always have the risk of an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy even if you do hot have any risk factors.
