Understanding Lower Abdominal Pain: Causes & Relief

Question
Hi-

Yesterday I went to see my doctor about a problem I have been having for the past few months.  I am a 26 year old male and for the past 8 months occuring about every 2 months I develop really bad stomach cramps and pain below my belly button(had an episode yesterday).  The pain will be across the entire abdominal region below my belly button.  I do not vomit nor do I have diarhea. (although last night I had very soft stool) After a few hours of having this pain the pain seems to travel to my lower right groin area.  (diagnally from my belly button).  When I wake up in the morning the pain is gone in my stomach but the soreness feeling near my groin area (really feel it when coughing or making certain  movements) remains but will soon subside a day later. My doc gave me a blood test for an infection or to check for appendicits.  Does a blood test show that type of info?  He also said it could be a Hernia but I find it weird that this only happens once every other month.  What do you think it could be?

Thank
Alex

Answer
a blood test can suggest an infection, but can't pinpoint an appendicitis.  It sounds like a lower intestine problem with that pain below the belly button.  I would have expected you to say the pain occurred then an episode of diarrhea.....

It could be some type of food your colon doesn't like, that you get sporadically... pay attention to what you ate the day before this occurred.....
