Mucus Plug & Labor: What to Know About Bleeding

Question
With my first pregnancy I lost my mucus plug the day I went into labor. There  was bleeding with it and when I got to the hospital I was 7cm dilated. This happened at 36wks. So, I've been a little paranoid during this pregnancy. I'm 32wks pregnant and after intercourse with my husband I started to bleed. It was very bright red, not the light pink it normally is. I was checked at the hospital and everything was fine. I'm pretty sure I lost my mucus plug after this happened. I was told by a nurse at the hospital that if you lose your mucus plug early you will get another one. All of the information I have from the Drs office etc says that you may lose your mucus plug hours or days before delivering but that it is a sign that labor could be starting soon. I've never heard that you would get another mucus plug. Which information is correct?

Answer
Once you lose your mucus plug ("bloody show") you will not create another one. After losing the mucus plug you may or may not go into labor, but you can. I doubt that you have had a bloody show yet at 32 weeks and I think the bleeding was merely due to the fact that you had intercourse with your husband. As long as you are not having contractions more than 10 minutes (from the beginning of one to the beginning of the next) at the level of your belly button, you are not going into labor. Don't worry.
