QuestionTuesday night 17/04/2007 i started with irregular contractions, the following day was pretty much the same,on Thursday at my anti-natal my midwife sent me to the hospital for a check, whilst on monitor it showed i was having contractions, she said i was 2cm dilated and cervix thin,i had a membrane sweep, today 20/04/2007 they have been 20 mins apart,i am 39 weeks and this is my 4th,does this mean i will soon be meeting my little one.
AnswerIn later pregnancies, it is very normal to have what is called prodromal labor, where you have days, weeks, or even months of regular or semi-regular contractions before you actually go into labor. Your uterus is gearing up earlier and more slowly, because it already knows what it's doing. Because this can go on for any length of time, it can't be used to determine when you'll actually go into labor. Neither can your dilation and effacement. But your body is definitely making progress. Just remember, you could still have three weeks to go, so don't get too impatient; stress can make your baby wait even longer than necessary!
Congratulations, and good luck!
