McDonald Cervical Cerclage and Mucus Plug: What You Need to Know

Question
I have 2 pretty tighly stitched Mcdonald cerclages in my cervix.  Would I still have a mucus plug since my stitches are very tight around my cervix?

Thank you,
Michelle

Answer
There is always a mucus plug protecting the contents of the uterus. The McDonald cerclage merely prevents the cervix from dilatation prior to the beginning of labor. The stiches will be removed around 38-39 weeks gestation, but you may still not have a bloody show (emission of the mucus plug) until you go into labor or slightly before.
