Induction of Labor: Reducing C-Section Risk

Is it less chance to have a c-section when your being induced after your mucus plug is out and you've seen your bloody show?

Answer
There are certain signs that your body is getting ready that indicate that induction is more likely to be successful and not result in a cesarean.  If your mucus plug is out and there is bloody show, it is likely that there is some effacement and dilation going on, but a vaginal exam would be needed to confirm that. Sometimes women lose their mucus plug from sneezing, intercourse, etc.

To determine your best chance of a successful induction, I would suggest finding out your bishop score. The higher the number, the more likely that induction will result in a vaginal birth. Here is more information about calculating your bishop score and the chance of cesarean based on that score:
