Sharp Right-Side Pelvic Pain: Causes & Relief
QuestionI have been experiencing a sharp pain in my lower right side of my pelvic area. This pain goes around to my back on the right side. As I sit at my desk or anywhere I am sitting, this pain shoots in this area. I have been to a M.D. who ran a lot of tests on my only to tell me that all my organs look good and that I should see my gynecologist. I went to see him and after examining me, he told me that it was a strained muscle. I asked him why this would be a cronic pain for over four months and he said it takes a long time to heal this muscle. I do not believe that this is the problem. I hope you can shed some light on this matter.
AnswerMost of the time, pain as you describe is really due to a strained muscle in that area. Other than heat, warm showers, and analgesics, there is nothing to do but wait. Another possibility for pain in that area is an ascending kidney infection. You may want to get a culture of your urine to see if there is any infection, causing costovertebral tenderness. If there are more than 100,000 colonies of a bacteria in the culture, it can be treated with antibiotics. Otherwise, I can't tell what is causing the pain without examining you.
