Breech Baby: Understanding and Encouraging Fetal Turning

Question
I have a due date of Dec. 7, 2005 and was told there is a chance my son could be born breach, is there any way for them to know that at this time, doesn't he have plenty of time to turn? Is there anything I could do to help him turn? Please any info you could give me would help. thanks.

Answer
A sonogram can show the position of the baby at this time. If you are due on December 7, you are now only 29 weeks pregnant. If the baby is breech now, it certainly has plenty of time to turn to a vertex position. if, however, when you are 37 weeks, the baby is still in a breech position, you should be scheduled for a cesarean section, which is the safest method of deliver for a breech. If the baby has turned by then, you can attempt a vaginal delivery. There are some exercises that you can do to try to turn the baby. Your doctor can instruct you on these.
