First Trimester Movement: When to Expect Fetal Kicks & What to Worry About
QuestionI am 20 weeks pregnant with my first child. I am not sure that I have felt the baby move yet. they say it feels like flutters? I feel something that feels more like gas bubbles. could that be the baby? I am so scared becuase I go to my ultra sound on thursday i am scared that they will discover that the babys heart isent beating. I feel this way becuase i am not sure I have felt it move and I know I have a active baby every time I went to my ob to get the heartbeat checked they would find the heart beat but the baby would move and they would have to find it again. when they did find it again it was alway strong and sounding good. All my test have came back good so far. Is it normal to feel this worried or is it my bodys way of saying something is wrong?

AnswerUsually, "quckening" (the sensation of fetal movement) is not felt until 22 weeks gestation. It is normal not to feel any kicking or fluttering during the first pregnancy until after 22 weeks. YOu may start to feel gas bubbles, but that is merely gas in your intestines. Be patient. There is no reason to suspect that there is any problems as long as you have not had vaginal bleeding or cramps. Don't worry. Soon the baby will be kicking so much that you will wish it would give you a rest. Good luck.
