In Utero Sound Exposure: Risks of Headphones and Hearing Loss

Question
There are several products out there that allow you to play music to your baby in utero with a CD player, etc with speakers resting on your belly.  How loud should the volume be?  Is there a max decible volume that may cause hearing loss in a baby?

Thank you.

Answer
Sound is easily transmitted to the baby. I suspect that the baby's developing ear is more easily damaged by sound than would be your ear. It should certainly be no louder than what can easily be heard by you through ear plugs in a quiet room. You should ask your doctor if there is any known dangerous sound level.
