Tips for Conception: Understanding Ovulation & Pre-Pregnancy Care
QuestionGood Morning
My husband and I have just start to try to have a baby and i was wondering if you could give me a few tips. First off i know clearblue has a ovulation test do they work well? Is there any other way to tell when your ovulating without using the calender methode? I started to take folic acids about 6 months ago is there anything else that i should be taking to help the baby? I know that most people dont realize there pregnant till the 5 week mark and that time is most important for the baby's growth. I just want to make sure that i'm giving my furture child the best head start in life so any advice will be much appresative.
Also should i book a appointment with our family doctor and discusse pregnancy prep?
Thans for all your help!
AnswerHi Stacy,
Clearblue makes a good ovulation predictor. A woman usually ovulates 14 days before her next period. If your periods are regular, circle when you expect the next period, count back 14 days, and that's when you're likely to ovulate. Start doing ovulation tests about 3 days before. When the test is positive, you'll ovulate the following day.
It's good to be taking folic acid and to stay healthy (good food, exercise, don't smoke). Talking to your family doctor may be helpful if there are any genetic conditions that run in your family. Good luck.
