QuestionThis question is for my daughter.
She is 22, having had her first child Sept.1,2005.
She tore pretty bad, a 9 on a 1-10 and had lots of
reconstruction from the hospital OB after delivery.
After 5 weeks, she is still having some bleeding. She is not
lifting more than the baby and is not real active (like into
running or other major activity)
Her midwife says this is ok. I am checking in to see if a
professional agrees with this.
I have 3 children and only bled for 2 weeks with all of them.
Sign me as a very concerned mother.
AnswerUsually, a woman will continue to bleed up to 6 weeks after delivery of the baby. The color and texture of the lochia changes and it gets less and less, and then usually stops when she goes for her post partum exam. If she is bleeding heavily, she should have it checked by her obstetrician. If not, she can wait for her PP exam.
