Understanding DNC Aftercare and Recovery: A Patient's Experience

Question
Hi Mohamed,

My friend asked me to write you about her DNC procedure as she has no email access.  She had the procedure done on her Feb. 29th.  Her doctor said that her baby was dead for 2 weeks prior to the procedure.

She was bleeding a lot on the 27th and had to go to the hospital.  The doctors in NY said that she was a miracle that she is alive.  They performed the operation and she is now home.  She is now experiencing migraine headaches that stretch for several hours to almost the whole day.

In addition, her lower back is tingling occasionally (2-3 times a day), and her legs hurt from thighs to the calves consistently (feels like sharp pain-almost like someone had hit her).  In addition, she feels dizzy at times and cannot stand up for long periods as her heart rate increases with physical activity.  She went to the doctor and they told her this was uncommon, but when I researched on my own that some of these symptoms can occur.

My friend was not prescribed any pain medicine at this point. She was given some antibiotics.

My question to you is if this is permanent damage, or is there hope for recovery? Please let me know as soon as you can because my friend is in a lot of pain and has the tingling in her lower spine.

Thank you so much for any help/opinions you can provide me.

Salina.

Answer
Dear Salina

I think your friend is having some degree of anemia responsoble for most of her symptoms and therefore, I strongly recommend a complete blood picture done. I am concerned about the pain in her calf and I think that she should be examined for this calf pain, as it may reflect something more serious.

I hope that these info are helpful and I wish her well.
