Post-LEEP Bleeding: Understanding Abnormal Menstrual Flow After Cervical Procedure
Questionhi, i am a 23 year old mother of one and i had a leep procedure performed at the beginning of august to remove both high grade squamish and glandular cells from my cervix. After the procedure i bled black for about 2 weeks which i know is from the paste they put in me to help heal the incision. After that i had two completely normal periods but my third period was anything but normal...it started on time but was about as close to black as it could get for the first 2 and a half days then it was red for about 2 days then back to black for the last day or so and it was also the lightest period i have ever had( at most a tablespoons worth per day). Since the period my abdomen has been increasingly uncomfortable which i know could be my nerves from worrying about it but i really dont think so...i have a doctors appointement next week but they told me on the phone that its unlikely that my period problem had anything to do with my leep procedure but if its not that then what else could it be? an infection maybe? I would really appreciate any insight you could give me on this matter!
thank you
AnswerI also doubt that the dark bleeding that you are having is, in any way, related to the LEEP procedure. That has already healed and the Monsel's solution (that was tarry black) is gone. Since uyou have had two normal periods since the LEEP, and this last one started on time, it is probably fine. The color of the blood is usually due to oxygen in the blood. "old" blood is usually brownish black, "new" blood is bright red. Black blood may be due to bile pigments that are in the blood. If you have pain or discomfort in your abdomen, perhaps a sonogram will help see what is going on. I doubt that you have any infection unless you have itching or a foul smelling discharge. See what the doctor finds next week.
