Understanding Changes in Your Period After Childbirth: Is It Normal?

Question
Thank you for your answer.  I was wondering if you could answer the question I posted regarding my period.  My periods for as long as I can remember after my last child (born 3 1/2 years ago) start with bleeding for about 3 days (first day is heavy, 2nd day a little lighter and by day 3 it is light and almost gone).  Then, about day 7 or 8 in my cycle I get a little spotting for part of the day.  Is this normal or indicative of a problem?  Thank you.

Answer
Your periods sound completely normal to me. Most women start with heavy bleeding for the first day and taper off until cycle day #3. Occasionally, you will get a bit more bleeding a few days later (just some uterine blood that had not been completely expelled). As long as you do not bleed longer than 14 days in a row, it is within normal limits. Don't worry.
