Understanding Period Cramps & Spotting After Ovulation: Causes & What to Expect
QuestionMy wife (31) and I (34) have been trying to get pregnant for close to a year now, we have been on vitamins, using ovulation tests, I am wearing boxers, and we are abstaining for the week prior to her ovulation. A few times, about a week after she ovulated and we tried, she has some cramping and then usually a dark red to brownish discharge for a couple days. This happens a few days prior to her regular schedule and then she begins her menstrual cycle again. Is this a symptom of something other than an unsuccessful attempt? Could this have been similar to a miscarriage? What are some of the common causes for failed attempts? Should we seek medical consultation from or family doctor? I would be grateful for any assistance you could offer on this matter for it is growing disheartening.
AnswerIf she is ovulating (you would know from the ovulations tests, it is probably time for an evaluation by a reproductive endocrinologist (fertility specialist). That doctor will probably initially focus on you - asking for a semen sample.
Now is the time to seek help from a specialist. A board certified reproductive endocrinologist is the best bet. Best of luck.
