QuestionI am 31 years old. I have three children. The date of my last period was 9/28/05.
I had a tubal ligation this summer. I've never missed a period unless I was pregnant. I had cramps when I should have started my period, but no period. My cramps have gone away, still no period. I am very bloated. I have taken four pregnancy tests, all negative. Could I have a ectopic pregnancy with a negative urine test? What else could be wrong with me?
Thanks for all your help.
AnswerIf the pregnancy tests are negative, you are not pregnant, either in the tube or the uterus. A pregnancy test measures HCG anywhere in the body. If the tubal ligation was done correctly, you cannot become pregnant. If you have any doubts, take a blood test for pregnancy. If the result is less than 5, you are definitely not pregnant. Sometimes, you can have some hormonal imbalance and miss an occasional period. If you have a negative pregnancy test and no period, ask your doctor to induce your period for you with Provera 10mg twice a day for five days and you should get your period within ten days.
