Can You Get Pregnant After a Tubal Ligation? | Fertility & Pregnancy Concerns

Question
I am 26 years old, I have two children and the first day of my last period was February 17, 2006. Note from the past...I had a tubal ligation done in Nov. 2002. I divorced in 2004 from a man who abused me for nearly 7 years that we were together. I recently got married March 4, 06 to a really great guy whom I have known for 10 years and who is really great with my boys. My symptoms I have had, well #1..no period, # 2..I had the cramping and lower back pain that I get with my period and never got no period, not even a spot. Then, my breasts are tender, more days than others. I have been having headaches throughout the afternoons, mostly everyday, and have felt nauseated a few days last week. I took a pregnancy test the other day at the doctors and it was negative. I work for Public Health and one of the nurses say it might be to early. I asked the dr. to do a blood check for pregnancy but he just laughed and said it only happens to 1 in 100 woman. This may be true, but could I be one of those 1 out of 100? And when should I retry a pregnancy test? I am now 15 days late with my period.

Answer
A pregnancy test is accurate 14-21 days after conception. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your period. If you are more than 1 week late for yur period, a pregnancy test is accurate.  You are not pregnant, especially since you had a tubal ligation. If you still want a blood test, take two blood tests, 48 hours apart . If both results are less than 5, you are definitely not pregnant.
