QuestionHi
I have a follow up question, I asked how long you recommend after a m/c and d&c to conceive again. You mentioned that you like your patients to wait until the next cycle for dating purposes. I would like to know if there is any reason apart from the dating that would make it unwise to try to conceive straight away before getting a period. Is there a higher rate of miscarriage?
I am charting my cycle using temperatures, cervical fluid and ovulation predictor kits, so I should be able to determine my ovulation date for dating purposes.
Also would a progesterone test in early pregnancy be accurate if the baby is conceived straight after a m/c and before the next period.
Thank you so much for answering all my questions, I really appreciate it.
AnswerThere is no medical reason for waiting until you get your next period to conceive after having had a miscarriage. It is only so that can accurately date the pregnancy.Sometimes, you may ovulate and not be aware of it. Since we date a pregnancy from the first day of your last period and not from the date of ovulation, it is important to know the first day of your last period. A progesterone level will be accurate any time you take it.
