Questionmy wife and I have been ttc. She is 29, good health, maybe minor endometriosis with 2 months well timed AI's, 3 months IUI (with donor sperm) and now started clomid days 3-7. Day 10 is a Thursday where we plan a sonogram and HcG trigger. Everything we have read says ovulation should occur 24-36 hours later. we are trying to figure out timing for IUIs after trigger shot. Our clinic will do IUIs on Saturday 8:30 - 11 am. There seems to be NO Way to
hit the 2 recommended times - 24 and 36 hours after ovulation. Any suggestions???
AnswerHello Kai,
There are two schools of thought for IUI's. One is to do only 1 IUI each cycle at around 33 hours post-HCG. The second is to do 2 IUI's at 24 and 48 hrs post-HCG. Once HCG is given the closest we can estimate is that ovulation will occur between 24 and 50 hours. For that reason, I use the two IUI method. Then the times don't have to be so precise either.
By the way, why are you using donor sperm. If you had IUI's with your own sperm previously, I presume that you are producing sperm adequately. If the sperm is subnormal for IUI, then you should be proceeding to IVF with ICSI, not IUI with donor sperm. Just some food for thought.
