Understanding a 7.5 HCG Level (Non-Pregnant)

Question
ok, thanks, but if it is negative is it bad to have a level of  7.5 HCG. If I am not pregnant they are inducing my period for me, but can a normal person have a level of 7.5?
Thanks for all your help
Shannon

I have had VERY VERY irregular periods after my Miscarriage in August, and went to the doctor to be put on Provera to induce my period. They first did a HCG test to make sure Im not pregnant before they put me on meds, and they called and said it came back that my Hcg level was 7.5 and anything lesss than 5 was a negative, and that they want to do another test next thursday to see if it rises. If im not pregnant, what could make my level rise? The level was back to normal after my Mc, so its not left in my system from that. I would only be my 1 or 2 weeks pregnant if I am.  Could I be since my HCG is 7.5? I am getting another HCG test done next thursday.

Thanks,
Shannon
Answer -
A value of 7.5 is pretty much a negative test, although the official "negative" is any value less than 5. They just want to be complete. If  the hCG rises, it indicates a new pregnancy. An HCG test can show evidence of a pregnancy within 10 days from conception.

Answer
An HCG level of 7.5 may be completely negative or it may be a very, very early pregnancy. Usually, a value of less than 10 indicates a negative result. It is not dangerous. It merely means that you have very little HCG. It may be somoe residual HCG from the pregnancy you had in August. A value of less than 10 is insignificant, unless the value keeps doubling every 48 hours. I would repeat the HCG test and see what it shows. Don't worry.
