Early Pregnancy Sac Size: Is My Gestational Sac Normal?

Question
I am 19 years old. This is my first pregnancy. My LMP was December 30, but I am pretty sure from charting that I ovulated on the 13th day of my cycle.

I went to the doctor on Tuesday at what should be 5 wks 6 days. There was an easily visible gestational sac and yolk sac. He measured my sac and it was only 8 mm. He said it looked fine, but I have found conflicting information. Some charts have me right on target, while others say that the sac was much too small. I am very worried about my baby and any thoughts would be appreciated!

Answer
If your lsat period started on December 30, you did ovulate on January 12 and could have conceived if you had sex on January 11,12,13, or 14. You should not be 5 weeks 4 days gesstational age (from your last period). At this point, we usually only see a gestational sac and a yolk sac. After 6-7 weeks, we can usually see a fetus and a fetal heartbeat as well. As long as there is adequate growth of the embryo, it does not matter the exact measurements of the sac. The range that is within normal limits is quite large. Don't worry. i would repeat the sonogram in two weeks to check the fetal heartbeat. Good Luck on the rest of the pregnancy.
