Novocaine & Pregnancy: Potential Effects & Safe Dental Treatment

Question
I am 39, 0 children and my the first day of last period was Nov 28th.

I had quite a bit of Novocain (at least 5 shots) for 2 dental fillings on Jan 31st.  I had not realized that I was expecting.  What are the potential effects on my baby?  And when is it recommended safe to finish the work? I had to stop because of the nausea.

Answer
You can safeoy take Novacaine during pregnancy. You can continue any dental work you are having. Just be sure to have them shield your abdomen prior to doing any X-rays. Dental X-rays travel in a straight line and are "coned" down so they will not hit the fetus. HOwever, shield your abdomen in any case. If you need antibiotics, all are O.K. except Tetracycline (which causes the baby's teeth to turn brown). You can take any form of pain medication (Percodcet, Tylenol, Tylenol with codeine). Don't worry.
