Missed Period After Birth Control: What to Do?

Question
hi, i am 21 years old and have been taking yasmin for six months now. I missed taking five pills, not one after the other, but it was in a two week period, I did take them the day after I missed. My period was late for a few days, but on Monday (March 20) I started bleeding, it is very light pinkish/red/brown and it's only a little, it's more like a discharge than a period. I also have some cramping. Usually I am very heavy. I was wondering if I could be pregnant, since this has never happened to me since I've been taking the birth control. Also, could there be a possibility that if I am pregnant it could be a ecotopic pregnancy?
Thanks a bunch

Answer
When was the first day of your last period? We recommend that, if you miss one pill, you should take two the next day. If you miss two pills, you should take two the next day and two the day after. This way, you have "caught up" and the pills will still be effective. If you miss more than 3 pills in a row, throw the pack away and start a new one after you start bleeding (which will occur within a few days of stopping). If you had a light period on March 20, wait  until March 27 and take a pregnancy test. If it is negative, you are not pregnant. If you have a positive pregnancy test, the baby can be growing in your uterus or in your tube (ectopic pregnancy). Usually, ectopic pregnancies have vaginal bleeding and pain on one side of the abdomen or the other. The first thing you have to do is get the pregnancy test. If you have excrutiating pain with bleeding, see your doctor right away.
