Possible Estrogen Imbalance: Migraines, Symptoms & Ortho Tri-Cyclen
QuestionHi, I am 24 and I have been getting migraines around my eyes for about four weeks along with the following symptoms: dizziness, nauseas, heartburn, breasts hurt and are swelling and my arms and legs go numb. I had these symptoms when I was pregnant before, my son is now 19 months old. I am on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and Synthroid (for hypothyroidism). I was late taking one of birth control pills last month but I did get a period on March 4th - it was light. I took a pregnancy test, it was negative. I read that too much estrogen can cause the migraines and the migraines can cause the dizziness and nausea. Do you think I am getting too much estrogen from bc pills or do I possible have a hormonal issue? My doctor cannot see me for several weeks and I am going crazy! Please help. Thank you!
AnswerI'm not convinced that you suffer from migraine headaches, since you claim that the headaches are around your eyes. If you do have migraine headaches, you should not be using birth control pills at all. OrthoTriCyclen-Lo is one of the lowest dosages of estrogen. I would suggest that you consult a neurologist to see if you really have a migraine rather than a very bad tension headache around your eyes. Call a neurologist and have it evaluated.
