Clomid and Spotting: Understanding Bleeding During Ovulation

Question
This is my second cycle using Clomid and I am concerned because I've had some spotting before I'm expecting a period.  My doctor prescribed Provera because I do not menstrate on a regular basis.  I then took Clomid on days 3-7.  The first round, I ended up ovulating on the 17th day of my cycle.  On day 31, I had some spotting, but not a regular period.  I wasn't pregnant so my doctor had me take the Provera again and the Clomid again.  This time I ovulated on day 13 of my cycle.  Then, on day 21, I had some light spotting that lasted 3 days on and off.  I feel no other early signs of pregnancy.  I was wondering if this could be implantation bleeding or breakthrough bleeding and how can I distinguish between the two.

Answer
Dear Rachel,

With your dilemma, it really is hard to tell the difference between breakthrough and implantation bleeding. The timing would be within the window for implantation bleeding, but it could also have been breakthrough.

It really doesn't mean anything either way that you aren't having any other symptoms. It would be pretty early for any other symptoms.

Unfortunately, you will likely just have to wait it out - AGAIN - to see what happens. Are you also taking your BBT? Can that give you any additional insight?

I know it is frustrating to play the "wait and see" game, but I'm afraid that is all I can offer you at this point and with this information. I wish I could do more. I will definitely have a good thought for you.
