Genital Herpes: Understanding the Truth About Symptoms, Incubation & Awareness
QuestionI have been given different information regarding genital herpes and once and for all, I would like to know what the real truth is. They say that G.H. is the most common spread STD, where 80-90% of people do not know they have it. But then, they said that once a person is exposed to it, there's a 4-14 day incubation period and outbreaks could occur as early as 1-2 weeks after exposure. If this is the case, how can 80-90% of people not be aware they have it? Is it possible to have it after being in a monogamous relationship for over a year without any symptoms of it from either partner?
AnswerHerpes Simplex can infect the body merely by brushing skin-skin. Once you are infected, the virus does not have to show any lesions or itch. The virus can be sequestered in the nerve sheath and flare up from time to time for several years. You may have been infected many years ago, so you cannot tell even if you have a monogomous relationship. If you havd any doubt, I would suggest DNA testing.
