QuestionHi i was just wondering if you can help me understand what's going on with my body. I thought that i was pregnant during my March cycle (possibly a late implantaion/miscarriage)i usually have an average cycle length of 29-31 days. i started spotting which i estimated was day 11 after ovulation. The spotting was off and on and light pink in color.I also noticed my cm had a different smell, and i knew it wasn't an infection. Then i never started on day 29-31 and af finally came on day 35. my april cycle lasted a normal 29 days. My question is, i just ended my period May cycle(new regular cycle. This one 29 days from the last abnormal one) two days ago and now i have mild cramping. I'm wondering if i could be ovulating earlier due to my abnormal cycle from last time. My boyfriend ejaculates inside me when i'm on my period. what do you think my chances are of ovulating quicker and becoming pregnant? also i heard that the moon can determine fetility at any given time in your cycle(even during menses).
Thank-you for your help.

AnswerHi Lisa,
it sounds like you are very in tune with your body already.
It also sounds like you might be having some irregularity. Not a big thing, everyone pretty much experiences this at some point. It just makes it harder to pinpoint when you might be ovulating.
IF you are interested in getting pregnant, I would try one of those home ovulation kits. They are not very expensive and can be very accurate.
I dont know of anything or way that can make you ovulate quicker; either way, if you ovulate earlier or later on in your cycle, you would still be the exact same number of days and weeks pregnant no matter what, because of how the pregnancy cycle runs.
Let me explain; you may know this already, but if not, maybe this will help expain things.
In a normal regular cycle, which you pretty much do have, you would probably ovulate anywhere from day 10-15. So, you say your period just ended two days ago: whatever day you STARTED, probably around May 19th? Would be DAY ONE of your new cycle. You would now start counting ahead:
So, on or about day 10-15, (May 29-June 4th?) anywhere in there, you would most likely ovulate. The cramping you feel could be a follicle releasing an egg, so yes, I suppose you could be ovulating. It seems a little bit early in your cycle to be ovulating now, but anything is possible.
So, no matter when this month if you do conceive, your potential due date would be the same, because a pregnancy cycle starts on DAY ONE of the FIRST DAY of your LAST PERIOD. So, lets say you do conceive sometime this month, and you do not get your next period, and go to the doctor and verify you are pregnant. how he would calculate your due date is:
May 19th (first day of last period)
go back three months and add seven days: February 26.
Feb 26 would be your due date IF you got AF on May 19th.
So, ovulating earlier in the cycle wouldnt matter as long as you conceive in the cycle, sometime. Does this make sense?
I hope I have explained it in a way that make sense.
Now there is nothing that says you cant get pregnant while you have AF; a woman can ovulate any time; the body is an irregular machine and things can happen. It isnt likely, of course, but it has happened. your best chances of conception are again, about 10-15 days after the first day of your period.
As far as the moon; I dont know if there have been any studies or anything to prove this, but who knows?
Good luck; I hope things work out for you and your boyfriend and you get your wish!
