Managing Your Period While on Birth Control & Planning Pregnancy
QuestionI have been on bcp for 6 months making sure that we didn't get pregnant during planning and promotions at work. We are getting married July 8th and July 3rd is when I am suppose to be on my period. We are going on vacation from the 3rd to the 12th, out of state wedding. Is there anyway to postpone the period. ALso, we want to start trying for children this fall/winter. Should we just get off of them in July because of the time it takes for my body to get back into a normal pattern?
AnswerYou no longer need to be off the pills for any amount of time before you start trying to conceive. Just stop the pills, wait for a normal period, and start. If you want to delay your period, take the pills regularly until June. Then when you have taken pill #1-21, go directly to a new pack, the very next day. Do not take pill #22-28. As long as you do this (take pill 1-21, switc to a new pack, take pill 2-21, start a new pack, etc.) you will not get youor period until you stop the pills. When uou want to get your period, merely stop the pack and you will start your period. Then start a new pack the Sunday after you get your period and you are back to normal. Congratulations.
